Exercise Physiology

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is an allied health professional that specializes in using exercise to prevent and manage chronic diseases and injuries. They typically hold a four-year university degree in the field with a license that permits them to prescribe an appropriate dose of exercise as a form of medicine.

AEPs guide, educate, and rehabilitate clients towards better outcomes using exercise. However, they may also provide non-exercise-related advice and support as well such as lifestyle modification and physical activity education.

As allied health professionals AEPs display diverse skills and knowledge which allows them to assist with the treatment of a wide range of conditions including:

  • Musculoskeletal conditions
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Diabetes
  • Osteoporosis
  • Mental health problems
  • Cancer
  • Arthritis
  • Pulmonary disease
